Ennis is the county town of Clare and stands on the River Fergus. The town is built around a 13th century castle and is a centre of administration, commerce and industry. A tourist trail of the town of Ennis takes in a number of historical and archeological items of interest including Ennis Abbey, built in 1250, the West Clare Railway Engine and the O Connell monument.
