Bantry is a busy market town and fishing port situated
at the head of the bay of the same name. The Bay was the scene of two landings
by the French armada in 1689 and 1796. Bantry House, as well as being an example
of one of the great Irish country houses, contains the French Armada Exhibition
Centre commemorating these landings.
